What registration_status means

Registration status reflects the LEI lifecycle state:

What entity_status means

Entity status reflects whether the legal entity itself is operating, independent of the LEI registration:

Note that registration status and entity status are separate dimensions. An INACTIVE entity may still have an ISSUED LEI (e.g., the LEI was renewed after dissolution), and an ACTIVE entity may have a LAPSED LEI (e.g., the registrant did not renew the LEI on time). We report both dimensions separately; we never blend them.

Grain & what we show

The GLEIF Golden Copy has one row per LEI. We aggregate by country (ISO 2-letter code, the jurisdiction of the registered entity's legal address). We show only:

Individual entity names (legal_name) are never included on any page or in any export from this atlas. We show aggregate counts only.

What this is not

Compliance Atlas is a reference catalog of aggregate counts. It informs and compares and routes you to search.gleif.org to verify entities. It does not:

Current coverage: 3,347,057 total entities across 236 jurisdictions. Data exported June 20, 2026.
